Iran calls EU protest statement meddling in internal affairs

The Iranian Foreign Ministry considers the EU protest statement in Iran to be an interference in the internal affairs of the countries, said Abbas Mousavi, a spokesman for the agency.

The EU considers violence during the protests in Iran unacceptable, calls on authorities and demonstrators to exercise restraint, as well as provide access to the Internet, the European diplomatic service said in a statement.

Mousavi responded by saying that Europe “is better at first to tackle its unrest and problems,” adding that there are detentions in Europe every week that result in “casualties.” Calling the EU statement meddling in Iran’s internal affairs, Mousavi also blamed the EU for “supporting economic terrorism and US sanctions” against Iran.
