The U.S. Department of State approved the possible sale of 36 Apache AH-64E modification helicopters with related equipment and armaments totaling $ 4.25 billion to Morocco, according to the Pentagon’s Defense and Security Cooperation Agency.
“This proposed sale will support US foreign policy and national security, helping to improve the security of a large non-NATO ally, which is an important force for political stability and economic progress in North Africa. The proposed sale will increase Morocco’s ability to withstand current and future threats, and will also increase interoperability with US forces and other allied forces … The proposed sale of this equipment and services will not change the main military balance in the region, ” the agency said.
Delivery dates are not announced, as an agreement between the countries has not yet been concluded.
The main contractors involved in this program will be Boeing and Lockheed Martin.
