Missile attacks on areas of Damascus were carried out by Israeli air forces, the Syrian news agency SANA reported, citing military sources.
The report said that missile launches were carried out by aircraft from the Golan Heights.
Syrian government troops reportedly shot down several rockets in the Damascus area on Wednesday night, Arab media reported.
Social network users, for their part, publish photos and videos that they claim to show how intercepted missiles explode in the sky. There are also photos of explosions on the ground, which may indicate that some of the missiles nevertheless reached their goal.
According to some reports, the target of attacks could be a military facility used by Iran south of Damascus. Among other things, it contains missile weapons.
At the same time, the Israeli army press service confirmed the attack on the targets of the “Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards and Syrian Regiment Corps” in response to the launch of four missiles into Israel by the Iranian military from Syria early Wednesday morning.
“The attack was carried out in response to the launch of missiles by Iranian forces of the Guard Corps from Syrian territory,” the statement said.
