EU counts on fair and transparent elections in Belarus

The EU expects to hold fair and transparent elections in Belarus that meet international standards, representative of the European diplomatic service Maya Kosyanchich told reporters on Friday.


Elections to the House of Representatives are scheduled in Belarus on November 17, early voting in the parliamentary elections ends on November 16. Elections are held according to the majority system, 110 deputies are elected in 110 constituencies. According to the latest data, the number of candidates in Belarus is 514 people.

“As always, we will closely monitor the elections, you know that our standards regarding elections are very high. As for Belarus, we expect fair and transparent elections in accordance with international standards. When the elections take place, we will respond”, –  Kosyanchich said at an EC briefing.

In Belarus, 28 thousand national observers and more than a thousand international ones were registered in parliamentary elections.
