Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the situation in Bolivia.
“We fundamentally condemn the use of violent methods to solve political problems”, – Zakharova said.
She explained that the consequences of such methods are “only chaos, human sacrifice, socio-economic instability”.
Commenting on the adoption of the presidency by the second vice-speaker of the Bolivian Senate, Janine Agnes, Zakharova emphasized that “the appointment, and most importantly, the legitimacy of the Head of state should clearly fit into the legislative norms of the country’s constitution and serve to unite and not split the nation”.
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that at present Bolivia needs “calm, peaceful dialogue, it is important to restore the work of state institutions in the constitutional field”.
“We expect that a responsible approach will be taken by all members of the international community both in the Latin American region and outside it”, – Zakharova added.
Earlier, Bolivian President Evo Morales, Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera, Senate Head Adriana Salvierrara and Senate First Vice Speaker, as well as the Head of the Chamber of Deputies, Viktor Borda, resigned.
In turn, Agnes said that the presidential powers are transferred to her.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called on all the political forces of Bolivia to find a legal way out of the crisis after the resignation of Morales.
