The European Union considers a vote of no confidence in the Cabinet of Moldova a “warning signal”

The EU considers a vote of no confidence in the Moldovan government a “wake-up call” for the reform process in the republic, the European diplomatic service said in a statement.

The Parliament of Moldova at a meeting on Tuesday with the votes of 63 deputies passed a vote of no confidence in the government of Maya Sandu.

“A vote of no confidence in the government on issues related to the recruitment process of the prosecutor general sends alarming signals to the country’s reform process”, –  the statement said.

The EU noted that the ruling coalition has already “launched a number of initiatives in the field of anti-corruption, in the sphere of independence of the judiciary and in the investigation of cases of banking fraud”.

“The need for such reforms has not disappeared with a vote against the government”, –  the report said.

It also states that “the EU is committed to working with those in the republic who support the reform process”.

“We will continue to build our relations with Moldova on the principle of respect for the rule of law and democratic standards”, – the diplomatic service said.
