US and Turkey discuss recent developments in Syria, media report

Turkish President’s spokesman Ibrahim Kalin met with US Special Representative for Syria James Jeffrey and US Ambassador to Ankara David Satterfield, during which they discussed the current agenda for Syria, Anadolu reports.

Earlier, with reference to a message from the Turkish Ministry of Defense, it was reported that US Special Representative for Syria James Jeffrey discussed the implementation of the Turkish-American agreement on Syria during negotiations in Ankara. At the end of the interagency meeting, Turkish Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar received Jeffrey and US Ambassador to Ankara David Satterfield.

The agency notes that the spokesperson’s meeting with US officials was held behind closed doors in the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul and lasted an hour and a half. The parties discussed the situation in Syria and the details of the visit of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to the United States, which is scheduled for November 13.

The parties were able to discuss developments in Syrian Idlib, progress in a political settlement in Syria and the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee. Representatives from Turkey and the United States emphasized the importance of the committee in ensuring transparent, fair and free elections in the SAR.
