The United States unilaterally destroyed the Russian-American Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles, thereby violating world stability. However, until now in Washington they cannot clearly name the reason for such a destructive decision.
As News Front previously reported, the United States began to accuse Russia of “violating” the INF Treaty while creating the 9M729 missile. Since 2014, the American administration claimed that the parameters of the rocket allegedly go beyond the limits allowed by the agreement. It was these accusations that Donald Trump used last fall when he announced the termination of the INF Treaty. Many countries, including the US allies opposed such a move. Russia also called for a constructive solution and even convened an international briefing to demonstrate the characteristics of the 9M729 missile, refuting groundless accusations. However, the United States and other NATO countries ignored the invitation. In the end, the United States achieved its goal and in the summer of 2019, the INF Treaty ceased to exist.
However, now, as Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Ryabkov said, Washington suddenly said that the decision to terminate the agreement was not connected with the 9M729 missile. Thus, the United States actually demonstrates that the accusations against the Russian Federation were unjustified. At the same time, the American administration did not report the real reasons for withdrawing from the INF Treaty.
“The American side says that our 9M729 missile is not what they meant [accusing Russia of violations of the INF Treaty]. What they wanted to say by this is completely unclear to us. They refuse to explain anything, ”the diplomat said, noting that this information was received in Moscow this August, when the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles was already terminated.
