The current American administration considers the provision of weapons to Kiev in the midst of an armed conflict in the Donbass the element of the project to ensure stability in Ukraine.
This statement was made by the head of the US State Department Michael Pompeo, speaking in Berlin as part of his visit to Germany.
Answering a question about the degree of United States commitment to ensuring peace and stability in Ukraine, the US Secretary of State assured that Washington was “very committed”, in connection with which he recalled how Kiev was provided with American weapons, which were actually used in the war against the civilian population of the people’s republics Donbass.
Pompeo assured that Ukrainian stability is “a project that the United States is working on.” “I remember attending the Munich Conference, being the only congressman from Kansas. Then the issue of providing Ukraine with defensive systems was actively discussed, ”the diplomat said, noting that this was in 2015 or 2016.
According to him, Germany and even the then American president Barack Obama opposed such a move. “They called it a bad idea,” Pompeo continued. “But President Donald Trump has already sent weapons to Ukraine two or three times so that she can counter the“ Russian aggression ”in the Donbass.”
In conclusion, the Secretary of State emphasized that Washington was “proud” of such a decision, as it supposedly “is significant for the freedom, Europe, peace and independence of Ukraine.”
