Germany “agreed” with the position of the United States that the financial aspect of the militarization of NATO should be shared in the interests of the alliance.
This is stated in the communique of the US Department of State, published following negotiations between US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and German Secretary of Defense Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.
According to the report, the parties “stressed the need to strengthen US-German cooperation, including within the framework of the North Atlantic Alliance.” In addition, it has been argued that Crump-Carrenbauer “agreed that burden-sharing is important to counter threats to transatlantic security.”
As News Front previously reported, US-German relations have been complicated, in part because of Berlin’s reluctance to raise military spending, as Washington demanded.
