According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the deputies were unable to agree on a bill providing for extenuating amendments to the EU Gas Directive, which would allow the operator of Nord Stream 2 AG to operate the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
“133 votes were cast. A quorum requires 355 votes. Therefore, parliament does not have a quorum. I close the meeting and announce the next meeting at 9 a.m. Friday, November 8, ”the chairman announced.
The next meeting will take place on the morning of November 8, but it is not known whether the issue of introducing amendments will be reconsidered.
The document proposed by the representatives of the CDU / CSU and the SPD does not contain the provision of the Third EU Energy Package, according to which the gas pipeline operator and gas supplier from third countries to the EU states should be independent from each other companies. In the case of Nord Stream 2, Gazprom is one of the parent companies of the operator Nord Stream 2 AG.
At a meeting, members of the Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany party called on the government to protect European companies involved in the pipeline project from American sanctions.
ADG called the project “an indispensable element of energy supply in Germany” and noted that its implementation primarily serves the interests of Germany and Europe.
