US President Donald Trump confirmed his intention to continue efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, mentioning this in a letter of condolences to South Korean President Moon Jae-In over the death of his mother, the presidential administration of Republic Korea reported.
Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Robert O’Brien delivered the letter to Moon Jae-In during the meeting on the sidelines of the ASEAN + 3 summit, which is being held in Bangkok.
In a letter, Trump expressed his condolences to the South Korean president over the loss, and also reiterated his commitment to efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
“I hope that Mr. President and I will be able to move together towards the common goal of denuclearizing the DPRK and (achieving) Peace on the Korean peninsula … the United States and South Korea are always making efforts to bring the day when families to the North and South of the demilitarized zone could be reunited”, – the message says.
Trump also expressed regret that Moon Jae-In’s mother was never able to visit her small homeland in North Korea. Moon Jae-In’s parents lived in what is now North Korea and were evacuated to the South during the 1950-53 Korean war.
