Michael Gove says London may not have time to conclude a trade agreement with the EU

The Minister was asked whether the risk remains that by the end of 2020 the UK will not have time to reach substantive agreements with the EU on the conditions for future cooperation, trade rules and tariffs.

“We certainly should be prepared for any options for the development of events, but I’m sure that before the end of the transition period we will be able to establish mutually beneficial relations with the EU,” answered Michael Gove, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (de facto Minister for Special Assignments).

He also confirmed that Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government did not plan to extend the transition period during which the United Kingdom and the EU would continue to trade under the old rules.
