Moldovan pro-Europeans’ approach ensured the victory of socialist in the Chisinau mayor election

One of the leaders of the ACUM bloc, Andrei Nastase, in his attempts to get the chair of the Mayor of Chisinau did not even bother to update his approach, and games in geopolitics completely undermined his chances of success.

The deputy from the Party of Socialists, Gaik Vartanyan, spoke about this on the air of the NTV Moldova TV channel.

According to him, since last year, when Nestase actually won, the situation managed to change, but the position of the candidate himself did not change. Residents of the Moldovan capital are simply tired of negativity, threats and geopolitics, and therefore supported Ion Ceban.

“Andrei Nastase did not have the political intuition and experience that would allow him to change his approach compared to last year. He was still at the barricades, never realizing that, having become a minister, he had become an ordinary official. He is no longer in opposition, but his task is to urgently carry out reforms in the ministry”, – says Vartanyan.

At the same time, political scientist Boris Shapovalov notes that the defeat in the election of the mayor of Chisinau is a serious blow to Nastase’s ambitions. Now he is unlikely to run for the President of the republic, as it was previously assumed. According to Shapovalov, the current situation is a big step backward for a pro-Western politician.

In turn, political expert Viktor Stepanyuk expressed the hope that the ruling coalition will now be able to begin constructive work, because there is nothing more to share between the socialists and pro-Westerners.

“The republic needs stability and results. Now that for the lefts and rights there is no point in conducting geopolitical disputes, they should create conditions for a normal life in the country. If Ion Cheban’s candidature at this post is better, let it be. The government needs to work on its own results”, – he concluded.

According to the results of Chisinau’s mayor’s election, the socialist Ion Ceban was able to defeat his opponent Andrei Nastase with 52.39% of the vote versus 47.61%.
