The government of El Salvador decided to expel members of the diplomatic corps of Venezuela from the country, the administration of the Salvadoran President said in a statement.
“The government of El Salvador expels the diplomatic corps of the regime (President of Venezuela – Ed.) of Nicolas Maduro in accordance with repeated statements by President Nayeb Buquele in which he did not recognize the legitimacy of the Maduro government”, – the president said on Twitter.
According to the communique, such a decision was made in accordance with the position of El Salvador on the report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on systematic violations of human rights in Venezuela.
“The government of El Salvador provides 48 hours to the entire diplomatic corps of the Maduro regime to leave the country”, – the statement said.
In Venezuela on January 21, mass protests began against President Nicolas Maduro shortly after being sworn in. The Head of the National Assembly, controlled by the opposition, Juan Guaido illegally proclaimed himself the interim Head of state. A number of Western countries led by the United States announced the recognition of Guaido. In turn, Maduro called the head of the Parliament a US puppet. Russia, China, Turkey and several other countries supported Maduro as a legitimate president. In Moscow, they called the “presidential status” of Guaido nonexistent.
