Over the past four months, 40 thousand migrants have arrived in Greece, said Deputy Minister of Citizens Protection Yorgos Kumutsakos responsible for migration policy.
In an interview with Skai, Kumutsakos said this was a national problem.
In recent months, the flow of migrants and refugees from the coast of Turkey has grown significantly, and in some regions of Greece there are almost more migrants than local residents. From the islands, migrants are transported to the continental part of the country. In a number of regions, protests were held against the placement of migrants and refugees.
“Over the past four months, 40,000 migrants and refugees have arrived”, – said Kumutsakos.
Commenting on reports of protests by residents, the deputy minister said that the state has a duty to inform local authorities about the movement of migrants.
“In order to have the support of the local community, we must constantly speak with him”, – he said.
“We all need to show solidarity with the border regions of the country that are accepting the first wave of migrants. The problem is big, and it remains for a long time. That’s why we need patience. We will have to see if we will all be together on this issue of a national scale”, – said the Deputy Minister.
