As a result of the first session of the Syrian constitutional committee, a small group was formed, which will be directly involved in changing the basic law of the Arab Republic.
The group included 45 people. Her work will begin on Monday, November 4th.
“Already next week, a small group will begin work. Then our representatives will return to Damascus. The second meeting will take place in two weeks,” explained the representative of the Syrian government, Ahmed Kuzbari, emphasizing that at the moment there are no specific dates for a full-fledged meeting of the constitutional committee, during which decisions adopted by the small group will be approved.
The results of the three-day work of the committee were also evaluated by the special envoy of the UN Secretary General for Syria Geir Pedersen. According to him, “the meeting was very productive.”
It is worth noting that at the moment the formation of a small group is the only achievement of the constitutional committee. The situation is complicated by the crisis of relations between the participants in the process. Thus, representatives of official Damascus regard the opposition as accomplices of the terrorists with whom the war has been going on for many years. The opposition, in turn, accuses the government of war with its own people. Nevertheless, these disagreements remain behind the scenes and are not put on the official plane.
