The US military plans to equip a new generation of small arms with cartridges of 6.8 mm caliber, according to the portal Popular Mechanics.
The new cartridges will replace the 5.56 millimeter bullets common in NATO used in M16 rifles.
It is noted that the US Army is rearming so that American weapons can penetrate the new type of bulletproof vests that China and Russia have at their disposal. 5.56 U.S. military consider ammunition obsolete to solve this problem.
New larger shells will receive weapons that will replace the M4A1 assault rifle and the M249 machine gun.
