Syrian Kurds do not want the US to control oil fields in the region.
This is stated by the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Syrian democratic Council (SDC) of Syria Ilham Ahmed to RIA Novosti.
“We do not want the Americans to control these (oil) fields”, – Ahmed said.
“This is just a discussion, nothing happens on the spot”, – he added, answering the question whether there are discussions on this issue with the American side.
Earlier, the head of the Pentagon, Mark Esper, said that the United States will protect oil fields in Syria and respond by force to attempts to seize them. According to him, American soldiers do not intend to let in either Russia or the Syrian military.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the US intention to exploit oil fields in Syria is illegal and Moscow will defend this position in contacts with Washington.
On October 9, Turkey announced the conduct of the “Source of Peace” operation in northern Syria, which began with air strikes by Kurdish forces.
On October 22, the Russian Federation and Turkey signed a memorandum of understanding of 10 points, in particular, on the introduction of units of the Russian military police and the Syrian border service on the Syrian side of the border with Turkey outside the Turkish Source of Peace zone. They will facilitate the withdrawal of Kurdish troops and their weapons 30 kilometers from the Syrian-Turkish border. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday that the Kurds were withdrawn ahead of schedule. After this, a joint Russian-Turkish patrol should begin to a depth of 10 kilometers from the border to the west and east of the Turkish operation area, except for the city of Kamyshly.
