US President Donald Trump said Thursday that the White House is looking for an alternative place to sign the first part of a trade deal with China.
“After the APEC summit in Chile was canceled due to circumstances beyond our control, China and the United States are working on choosing a new place to sign the first part of the trade agreement, which is about 60% of the entire deal. A new place will be announced shortly “The President of (China) Xi (Jinping) and President Trump will sign,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
Earlier, White House deputy spokeswoman Hogan Gidley said the United States hopes to sign the first part of a trade agreement with China, despite the cancellation of the planned meeting between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping at the APEC summit in Chile.
On Wednesday, Chilean President Sebastian Pignera announced the cancellation of the APEC summit and the COP25 climate forum, which were to be held in November and December in the country. In recent weeks, mass protests have been taking place in Chile, which often end in riots and clashes with the police. A state of emergency was imposed in the country, and there were curfews for several nights in a row.
