In Syria, fired at the border crossing, where there was a Russian military police

Six people were hit by shelling at the Darbasiyya border crossing in the northwestern Hasek province of Syria when Russian military police convoys were stationed there, Syrian state television reported. At the same time, who exactly was injured was not specified.

Later, the Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties stated that there was no attack on the Russian military, and the attempt of “unidentified persons to carry out the provocation was unsuccessful”.

The situation in the north of the Arab Republic escalated in early October, when Turkey launched Operation Source of Peace, directed against Kurdish troops.

On October 17, by agreement with the United States, Ankara suspended operations so that the Kurds could withdraw their units from the 30-km buffer zone on the border.

On October 22, Vladimir Putin and Recep Erdogan held six-hour talks, following which a ten-point memorandum of understanding was signed.

The document provides for the entry on the Syrian side of the border with Turkey outside the zone of operation “Source of Peace” of the Russian military police and the Syrian border service. They will facilitate the withdrawal of Kurdish troops and their weapons 30 kilometers from the Syrian-Turkish border, as well as carry out patrols with the Turks.
