The authorities of Bolivia, Chile and Cuba congratulated the Argentinean opposition leader Alberto Fernandez on their victory in the presidential election.
Argentina held Sunday’s presidential election. As a result of processing 96.5% of the vote, Fernandez gains 48.06%, the current President Mauricio Macri – 40.4%. The president-elect will take office on December 10.
“I congratulate the Argentine people on the holding of democratic elections with wide participation, which can serve as an example for others. I congratulate Alberto Fernandez with a great victory and I am confident that we will work with all the willingness, perseverance and vision of the future for the benefit of our peoples and the unification of South America”, – Chile’s president, Sebastian Pinhera, wrote on Twitter.
Bolivian President Evo Morales and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez also congratulated Fernandez and welcomed the democratic nature of the election.
Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States, also joined in the congratulations. He emphasized that “the OAS is always ready to cooperate to protect democracy, human rights and freedoms”.
