Turkey considers it important to continue the cooperation of the guarantor countries of Astana (Russia, Turkey, Iran). This is stated in a trilateral format for the settlement of the Syrian conflict by Sadik Arslan, Permanent Representative of Turkey to the UN Geneva Office in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“Yes, of course. The Astana group discusses a lot of questions. The first topic is the political track, the other topic, of course, is security. Then comes the theme of prisoners and the humanitarian track. So the importance of the group will not disappear. Because the Syrian file is still open, and still creates many challenges for neighboring countries and the international community”, – he said.
According to him, the meetings of guarantor countries in a trilateral format will continue. Including in the near future in Nur Sultan.
The guarantees of a truce in the SAR, where armed conflict has been ongoing since 2011, are the Russian Federation, Turkey and Iran. They are discussing a settlement in Syria at the Nur Sultan site. During this time, Syria managed to almost completely defeat the terrorists, begin a political settlement, return refugees and restore the infrastructure destroyed by the war. A constitutional committee was created, including the opposition. The first meeting of the committee is scheduled for October 30 in Geneva.
