US intelligence officials may pay for Butina’s arrest

The resonant detention of Maria Butina was accompanied by violations of the law, in connection with which the US Department of Justice begins an investigation into the circumstances in which proceedings were initiated against the Russian woman.

This was told by Butina’s lawyer Robert Driscoll in a comment to the TASS news agency.

According to the lawyer, he made a corresponding request to the Ministry of Justice in July. In a letter, he reported the available information on those violations by the investigation. In addition, Driscoll noted that he was awaiting results in other “Russian cases” that were initiated against the backdrop of the 2016 US presidential election. “Have you taken inappropriate actions or something like that,” the lawyer explained.

In particular, he turned to special prosecutor John Durham, who is investigating the circumstances of the beginning of the counterintelligence investigation against Donald Trump in 2016.

As News Front previously reported, US intelligence agencies accused Butina of “conspiracy” and knocked out her confession, threatening him with a long prison term. When she pleaded guilty, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison. She was released the day before.
