After the protests, Chilean President promises governmental reshuffle

The composition of the Chilean government will undergo a change after the protests were held in the country, said the President Sebastian Pinera.

“I asked to resign to form a new government”, – he said.

Pinier explained that was necessary in order to respond to the request of citizens who demanded reforms in the country. The President’s statement was broadcast on Twitter.

The reason for the start of mass protests in Chile was the increase in metro fares in the early October. However, this is only one of the reasons. Residents are opposed to the inability to get a decent free education and health services, low salaries and rising tariffs.

Initially peaceful, by October 18, the actions grew into clashes with law enforcement officers and pogroms, killing 19 people. Military and armored vehicles were pulled into large cities, and curfews were regularly introduced.
