The decision of the European Union regarding the postponement of the Brexit date, which was requested by the UK, will largely depend on the decisions of the parliament of this country, said the Head of the European Council Donald Tusk.
“The results of these consultations will largely depend on what the British Parliament decides or does not decide”, – he said at a plenary session of the European Parliament.
The European Union and the United Kingdom last Thursday, after several weeks of intensive and difficult negotiations, agreed on an updated deal under the terms of Brexit, then it was approved by the summit of the heads of the 27 remaining EU countries, and now it must be ratified by the British Parliament, and the fate of a “divorce” depends on it country and union.
However, the vote in the United Kingdom, scheduled for Saturday, did not produce results, as well as what could have taken place on Monday.
The previous version of the agreement was rejected three times by the British deputies, in connection with which the deadline for the country’s withdrawal from the union was postponed from March 29 to October 31 this year. Now the UK is asking for a new delay – until the end of January. The decision on its provision should be made by the summit of the leaders of the countries remaining in the European Union. Until October 31, new summits of EU heads of state have not yet been appointed.
The country’s withdrawal from the union without an agreement on the conditions of this “divorce” threatens both sides with serious economic consequences, since the norms of the European Union should cease to apply to the country from the moment of its separation from the EU.
