More than 150 people died during the protests In Iraq

At least 149 civilians and eight security officials were killed in clashes during protests in Iraq in early October, according to a report by the Iraqi special commission to investigate the deaths at RIA Novosti at a demonstration.

Earlier, the Ministry of health of Iraq reported that during the clashes 165 people were killed, more than 6 thousand were injured.

“149 civilians, 107 of them in Baghdad, and eight security forces were killed, 3,458 people were injured”, – the report said.

According to the report, the use of military weapons and the excessive use of force resulted in casualties among demonstrators. In addition, the report also recommends the removal of a number of senior officials from the Iraqi security forces.

The protests, accompanied by fierce clashes between the demonstrators and security officials, began on October 1 in Baghdad and subsequently swept not only the capital, but also several provinces in the south of the country. Demonstrators demand the resignation of the government, as well as improving living conditions, solving problems in the healthcare, education and labor markets, and fighting corruption.
