The Libyan coast guard on Sunday saved 126 illegal immigrants in the Mediterranean, the representative of the Libyan Navy, controlled by the government of national accord in Tripoli, Ayyub Kasem.

 This is reported RIA Novosti.

“Based on the distress signal on boats with illegal migrants received from the operational headquarters of the coast guard, the Fezzan ship from the first coast guard unit of Tripoli set off with a rescue mission. On Sunday, October 20 at 10:00 morning during the (rescue missions) an inflatable boat was rescued, on board of which there were 126 illegal migrants, among them four women and four children”, – Kasem said.

According to him, the boat with illegal migrants who are citizens of African countries was in the Mediterranean Sea north of the Libyan capital Tripoli.
He added that the rescued migrants were brought to the Navy point in the port of Tripoli and later transferred to the anti-illegal migration department after receiving the necessary medical care.

After the overthrow and assassination of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya virtually ceased to function as a single state and turned into a transshipment point for illegal migrants seeking to enter Europe. Illegal armed groups operating in Libya control the illegal business of sending migrants to Europe.
