Extraordinary elections will be held in Northern Macedonia

Parliamentary elections will contribute to the Euro-Atlantic integration of the country, said Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.

An extraordinary parliamentary election will be held in Northern Macedonia next April. The Prime Minister of the Republic Zoran Zaev announced this on his Twitter page on Sunday, October 20.

According to Zaev, on the eve of a meeting with President Stevo Pendarovski, it was decided that early parliamentary elections in Northern Macedonia will be held on April 12, 2020. The head of government stressed that the parliamentary elections will contribute to the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration.

“The unanimous position of all leaders is that Euro-Atlantic integration is our goal. It was decided that the parliamentary elections will be held on April 12, 2020. We are moving towards a democracy that unites European values, the rule of law, human freedoms and rights. I hope that on April 12, citizens will make a wise decision”, – he wrote.

In addition, on January 3, an interim government will begin to operate in Northern Macedonia.

Recall that North Macedonia was forced to change its name in order to join the EU and NATO, as Greece, which is a member of the EU, insisted on this.

However, last week it became known that the EU refused to start negotiations on the accession of two countries – Northern Macedonia and Albania. European Commissioner Khan said EU leaders “failed to fulfill their obligation” to start negotiations.
