Chairman of the Catalan generality Kim Torra called on the Spanish authorities to immediately sit at the negotiating table in connection with the situation in the region, where unrest has not ceased since the beginning of the week.
“We insist that the chairman of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, set a date and time today to talk. This is his duty. It is extremely urgent – more than ever,” said the statement issued by the genre of Torra following a meeting with the mayors of Tarragona, Lleida and Girona, all of them are supporters of the independence of the autonomous community from Spain. The mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, did not attend the meeting.
Torra once again stated that the independence movement should be “peaceful in nature”, that “no form of violence” advocates “independence,” but added that the Catalan authorities are going to “go as far as the people of Catalonia want.”
During the riots on Friday and Saturday night, 182 people were injured, of which 152 in Barcelona. Catalan law enforcement authorities detained 54 people.
