Former Catalan Prime Minister Carles Puigdemont, who fled Spain in 2017, voluntarily appeared in law enforcement agencies in Belgium.
It is reported by the newspaper El Pais.
Puigdemon came to law enforcement in Belgium with lawyers. The prosecutor has not yet specified whether this time the former leader of Catalonia will be interrogated. However, El Pais suggests that Puigdemont will remain free, but he could be called back to law enforcement in the next few days.
Recall, on October 14, Catalan politicians who organized a referendum for the independence of the region in October 2017, the Supreme Court of Spain sentenced to 9 to 13 years on charges of rebellion and embezzlement. Puigdemont was then again put on the European and international wanted list.
Following the sentences of the Catalan leaders in Barcelona and other cities, protests began. More than 40 people were injured. A general strike is scheduled for October 18 in Catalonia.
