Ralph Stegner, Deputy Head of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), considers the habit of looking back at the decisions of the United States and NATO to be “yesterday’s policy”, and calls on strengthening the role of international law in resolving pressing problems.
“I think that a policy that relied and constantly looked at the decisions of the United States and NATO is a yesterday’s policy. I think we need to rely more on international agreements on various issues”, – Stegner said at the meeting with the Head of the international committee of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev in Moscow.
According to the German politician, it is always easier to conduct a dialogue in a bilateral format, however, given the complexity of the current situation in Europe and around the world, simple bilateral negotiations may not always have the desired effect, because the task is more complex.
“And if we are discussing issues such as climate change, refugees, then we need to involve more parties. Therefore, in this sense, strengthening the role of the UN and the role of international law are those aspects that we need to administer more efforts on”, – politician said.
