German deputy notes that anti-Russian sanctions are not useful

The Deputy Head of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) Ralph Stegner expects that in 2020 it will be possible to get advanced on the cancel of anti-Russian sanctions.

“I hope that in 2020  there will be a progress (in cancel of the anti-Russian sanctions). I don’t know how quickly this will succeed. If everything depended solely on Germany, the issue would be resolved faster. But we are not the only ones who plays the role here”, – said the Deputy.

“It is beneficial for us that the anti-Russian sanctions be overcome. I think that with the Head of the international committee of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev in Moscow, we have just discussed that the more we can move forward on Minsk agreements, according to the “Norman format” (Russia, Ukraine, Germany, France – ed.) and the “Steinmeier formula” (for settlement in the Donbass – ed.), the sooner there will be no sanctions. They do no good to anyone”, – the source said.

The deputy also noted the need to strengthen economic cooperation and called for improving bilateral relations between Germany and Russia.

“This is really desirable. And therefore, these problems need to be solved. I believe that today’s negotiations were interesting because they also dealt with minority issues – they need to be more focused on. There is an issue of Russian minorities in Ukraine, but in Europe there are also these problems – they can also be observed in Catalonia, Scotland, Ireland and other countries. I think that Germany could also help here. And there are decisions on how best to solve it and reduce the number of conflicting moments”, – Stegner concluded.
