Turkey called for increased protection of its missions in the EU due to aggression by Kurdistan Workers’ Party members

Ankara calls on EU authorities to strengthen the protection of their diplomatic missions in connection with the riots during the rally of members of the Kurdistan Workers Party protesting Operation Source of Peace in northern Syria, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“We note with deep concern that violence continues to grow during the Kurdistan Workers’ Party actions, especially in European countries… We expect the respective countries to strengthen security measures and pay maximum attention to the protection of our diplomatic missions, the safety of our citizens abroad, as well as protecting Turkey’s interests”, – the statement said.

It is noted that Ankara will  “closely monitor the identification, prosecution and conviction of criminals”.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on October 9 announced the start of Operation Source of Peace in northern Syria against the Kurdistan Workers Party and the terrorist group ISIS. Turkish aviation attacked the city of Ras al-Ain and a number of other Syrian cities on the border of the two countries on the same day. Later it was announced the beginning of the ground part of the operation.
