The United States conducted a secret cyber operation against Iran in late September in response to a series of attacks on Saudi oil facilities, for which Washington blames Tehran. This was reported on Wednesday by Reuters, citing sources among US officials.
A series of cyberattacks were directed against Iran’s spread of propaganda, the agency said.
The Pentagon declined to comment on cyber attacks. “Within the framework of politics and operational security, we do not discuss operations in cyberspace, intelligence and planning,” the agency quoted an official from the US Department of Defense Elissa Smith as saying.
The two largest enterprises of the Saudi national oil company Saudi Aramco were attacked on the night of September 14. The Hussite rebels from the Ansar Allah Yemeni movement claimed responsibility for the attack. As a result of explosions and fires caused by UAV attacks, the world’s largest oil exporter fell 5.7 million barrels from 9.8 million barrels per day.
The United States and Saudi Arabia have blamed the attack on Iran. According to their version, the attack was organized using drones and missiles, which are not in the arsenal of Hussites. In Tehran, these charges were called baseless.
