Fierce clashes between migrants occurred on the Greek island of Samos.
Three people were injured, tents were set on fire in a migrant camp, schools were closed, newsit.gr reported.
Riots began late in the evening in the city garden of Samos, where there was a brawl with the use of cold steel between groups of Afghans and Syrians. Three Syrians were injured and were hospitalized, the newspaper writes. The attackers were soon arrested.
The unrest continued in the camp, where at about 10 pm (the time coincides with Moscow), housing was set on fire. Dozens of people fled in panic, the newspaper writes. Then the migrants moved to the city of Samos.
Schools are closed in some localities.
According to the mayor, the situation is explosive. “We have seven thousand permanent residents and 5.7 thousand refugees”, – he said.
According to the Greek authorities, on October 14 on the island in the center of reception and identification, designed for 648 people, there are 5768 thousand people. In total there are more than 6 thousand migrants on the island.
In late September, a riot took place at the “Moriah” migrant and refugee reception and identification center on the Greek island of Lesbos. To restore order, special forces from Athens were sent. The camp now has 13.6 thousand people, although it is designed for 3 thousand.
