Protesters rallied against a possible constitutional change that could allow President Alfa Conda to remain in office for a third term.

“Now Guinea is protesting for Democracy. Their President wants to amend the Constitution so he can have a third term. And the people are starting to rise up” – reports on Twitter one of an eye-witnesses of the events.

At least one police officer and one protester were killed during the demonstrations. According to eyewitnesses, the police opened fire on demonstrators who attacked military posts and blocked roads in the country’s capital, Conakry.
