Reaching an agreement on Brexit is still possible this week, Michel Barnier, EU chief negotiator for Brexit, told reporters.
“While reaching an agreement is getting harder and harder, it is still possible this week”, – he said ahead of the start of the EU Council of Ministers for common Affairs, which will consider Brexit.
Great Britain is due to leave the EU on October 31. Earlier, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that he would withdraw the country from the EU on October 31 with or without agreement. However, in September, parliament passed a law requiring the head of government to request a postponement of Brexit on the first business day after October 19 if the text of the withdrawal agreement was not agreed before October 19. Johnson said after the law was passed that he would “rather die under the fence” than ask for a postponement of Brexit.
