The authorities of Ecuador, following the revocation of the decree on the abolition of fuel subsidies, canceled the increase in transport tariffs and returned the cost of tickets to the previous level, follows from the message of the national transport agency.
On Monday, after many days of protests in Ecuador, President Lenin Moreno withdrew a decree that canceled gas subsidies in the country.
“The agency informs citizens that, according to the decree 894, resolutions 77 and 81 are canceled in relation to tariffs for city, intercity and regional transport”, – the report says.
These resolutions previously led to an increase in the cost of transport tickets. Thus, travel between cities and provinces has risen in price by more than 30%.
Protests in Ecuador have continued since early October. Their catalyst was the abolition of state subsidies for fuel and economic reforms. Protesters blocked roads, oil fields and access to Quito airport, disrupted the work of many enterprises, took police officers hostage.
The President of Ecuador declared a state of emergency and moved his headquarters from the capital to the city of Guayaquil. On Sunday evening, authorities and the opposition in Ecuador agreed to immediately end the confrontation.
