China calls on Turkey to cease hostilities in Syria and return to a political settlement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at a briefing on Tuesday.
“China opposes the use of force in international relations, we believe that all parties should fully comply with the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, as well as the norms of international relations, to seek ways for a political and diplomatic settlement of the problem within the framework of international law”, – the diplomat said.
He emphasized that “the sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence and unity of Syria should be respected and protected”.
“We urge Turkey to cease hostilities and return to the right path of a political settlement”, – said Geng Shuang.
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on October 9 announced the launch of Operation Source of Peace in northern Syria against the Kurdistan Workers Party and the Islamic State terrorist group. Turkish aviation attacked the city of Ras al-Ain and a number of other Syrian cities on the border of the two countries on the same day. Later it was announced the start of the ground part of the operation.
