According to the results of the last round of trade negotiations, China and the United States were able to achieve significant consensus on the first part of the trade agreement, which the parties have been trying to work out for more than a year, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at a briefing on Tuesday.
The next round of trade negotiations between the US and China took place last Thursday and Friday. The most important decision of the US administration based on their results was the agreement to postpone the introduction of duties on October 15 on Chinese goods imported into the United States. US President Donald Trump said the first part of the US deal with China could be signed at the APEC summit in Chile. US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin said the deal covers issues related to intellectual property, financial services, and US $40-50 billion worth of agricultural products.
Commenting on the US statement that the parties have reached substantial consensus on the first part of the deal, the diplomat noted that “what the US is talking about is consistent with the real situation and coincides with our understanding of the situation”.
“The parties are also unanimous on issues related to the achievement of a trade and economic agreement, there is no disagreement on this”, – he added.
According to him, “this part of the trade agreement will be extremely important, will be beneficial for China, the United States and the whole world, as well as favorable for the economy, trade and the world”.
