Turkey disappointed by “collective security” of the North Atlantic alliance

Despite the fact that Turkey is a full member of NATO, the alliance frankly ignores Ankara and is in no hurry to provide military support to it in accordance with the organization’s charter.

Such a statement on Monday, October 14, was made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He accused the Alliance of neglecting Article 5 of the NATO Charter, which governs the principle of collective security.

“Turkey is a member of NATO, an organization where the charter contains article 5, and we were threatened by a terrorist formation. According to article 5, the alliance must be on our side. So are you really with us or on the side of the terrorists? They are not able to give an answer”, – Erdogan said.

He drew attention to the fact that Turkey is the only Muslim country of NATO. This is what many explain the ambiguous position of the alliance.

“We are also starting to think so. Article 5 does not work”, – stated the Head of the republic.
