Riyadh and Abu Dhabi believe Putin will save them from American influence

The first visit of Russian leader Vladimir Putin to the Persian Gulf countries in the last twelve years could mark a major change for Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

About this writes the French edition of  “L’Opinion”.

The author notes that until recently, Russia was negatively treated in the region, but the situation in Syria has changed a lot, making Moscow an indispensable regional player.

The hereditary princes of the two countries who are aiming to enter the international arena, having demonstrated their independence from American influence, are now striving to take advantage of such an obvious influence of Russia. In order to demonstrate their independence, Riyadh and Abu Dhabi need negotiations with Putin.

The publication considers the economy to be an equally important factor for Russia’s return to the region, because trade cooperation between these countries and the Russian Federation is systematically expanding. This is also due to the fact that Moscow is looking for links that compensate for the void formed in connection with Western sanctions. Thus, the agreement with OPEC + has already brought Russia $100 billion in profit.

The publication emphasizes that American destructive policy, in particular regarding Iran, opens up excellent prospects for Russia in the Middle East.
