Curfew imposed in Ecuador’s capital

Protesters blocked roads to the country’s international airport and seized a number of office buildings in Quito.

Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno on Twitter announced curfews and military control in the country’s capital, Quito, amid protests against rising fuel prices.

According to the Ecuadorian leader, it should facilitate the work of law enforcement agencies in the fight against excessive manifestations of violence.

The Ministry of Tourism of the country recommended that tourists stay in hotels or other safe places in connection with the introduction of curfews.

At Quito International Airport, passengers are advised not to come to the air harbor and contact representatives of their airlines, and those who have arrived should not leave the airport building.

The protests in Ecuador began after the president of the country signed a decree on the abolition of subsidies for diesel and gasoline from October 3, as a result of which fuel prices increased significantly. On October 3, Moreno introduced a state of emergency in Ecuador due to protests. On October 12, the president agreed to revise the decree abolishing fuel subsidies.
