US works with partners to protect Kurds in SAR, Pompeo said

The US is working with partners to take steps to protect the Kurdish people in northeastern Syria, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in an interview, the text of which is published on the website of the Department of State.

“We work with states. I’m going to talk with my European colleagues tonight (Friday local time, Saturday Moscow time – ed.). We are mobilizing the world to take measures that will help protect the Kurdish people there, in the northeast Syria. We know that it is important, that it is right, and America intends to achieve this, “said Pompeo in an interview with WKRN-TV.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on October 9 announced the launch of Operation Source of Peace in northern Syria against the Kurdistan Workers Party and the Islamic State terrorist group banned in Turkey. Turkish aviation attacked the city of Ras al-Ain and a number of other Syrian cities on the border of the two countries on the same day. Later it was announced the start of the ground part of the operation.

Since 2014, the United States and its allies have been conducting an operation against the terrorist group IS in Syria and Iraq, and in Syria they are acting without the consent of the country’s official authorities.
