The second most important person of the Department of State will become the American ambassador to Russia

The US President Donald Trump has decided on the candidacy for the post of the American ambassador to Russia.

On Friday, October 11, this was reported by “The Wall Street Journal” edition, citing its own sources.

According to media reports, the diplomatic mission may be headed by John Sullivan, who is now the first Deputy Secretary of state for the United States and is actually the second most important head of the Department of State after Michael Pompeo.

As News Front previously reported, Trump was considering Sullivan’s candidacy back in August. The official in the past has already taken part in Russian-American negotiations on strategic stability, although in total his experience in this area is small. For appointment to the post of head of diplomatic mission, Sullivan will have to get the approval of American lawmakers.

John Huntsman, who served as U.S. ambassador to Russia since October 2017, filed a resignation request to Trump.
