NATO supports efforts to implement the Minsk agreements on the Donbass, including the harmonization of the Steinmeier formula, said Alexander Vinnikov, head of the North Atlantic Alliance’s mission in Ukraine, on Tuesday.
Earlier, the Donbass contact group agreed on the “Steinmeier formula” (German president, former OSCE chairman, ex-Foreign Minister of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier), according to which the law on the special procedure of local self-government in certain areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions comes into force on an interim basis on election day and on an ongoing basis – after the publication of an OSCE report on the election results.
“NATO fully supports the implementation of the Minsk agreements by all parties. We also noted that last week the” Steinmeier formula “was approved in a tripartite contact group … We support all efforts aimed at reducing tensions and can contribute to the full implementation of the agreements,” Vinnikov quotes the site of the Gromadsky television channel.
He noted that the implementation of the Minsk agreements is the “only way to a political settlement” of the conflict in the Donbass.
