Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting on the sidelines of the International Forum of Science and Technology in Society with Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov, during which the parties discussed the development of cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
“We welcome the visit of Deputy Prime Minister Akimov to Japan and look forward to developing cooperation between Russia and Japan in the field of science and technology”, -Abe quoted the press release of the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
In addition, the Japanese Prime Minister noted “the progress of relations between Japan and Russia in a wide range of areas”, as well as “the results obtained in the framework of the” cooperation plan “in eight areas”.
“In turn, Deputy Prime Minister Akimov noted that the frequent meetings between Prime Minister Abe and President (Russia Vladimir – ed.) Putin brought dynamism to Japanese-Russian relations in various fields, and expressed his intention to further expand the cooperation of countries in the field of energy, transport, innovation and others”, – the document says.
The “Cooperation Plan”, covering eight areas of practical interaction between Japan and Russia, was presented by Japanese Prime Minister Abe during his meeting with the President of the Russian Federation in Sochi in May 2016. This plan covers such areas as energy, industry, healthcare, agriculture, the urban environment, cooperation of small and medium-sized enterprises, high technology and humanitarian exchanges.
