Medvedev: Cuba is ready to pay off all debts to Russia

Cuba settles its debts with the Russian Federation and is ready to pay them all, even if it has overdue payments, the situation is not the same as it was 20-30 years ago, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Saturday.

From October 3 to 4, Medvedev paid an official visit to Cuba.

“Our Cuban friends pay off their debts. Unlike what happened some time ago – say, 20-30 years ago, in Soviet times, when no one counted money in this case. Now our Cuban friends are paying”, – Medvedev said on the Saturday News program with Sergei Brilev.

The Prime Minister noted that during conversations and negotiations with the Chairman of the State Council and the Council of Ministers of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, he “emphasized several times: if we have delayed something somewhere, don’t worry, we will repay everything”.

During the conversation with the Prime Minister, Brilev recalled that there is a unique Russian-Cuban agreement, according to which Moscow wrote off 90% of the debt to Cubans. At the same time, according to the presenter, Cuba repays 10% of the debt on conditions that are very favorable for Russia – there is a whole industry of the Cuban economy where only Russians are allowed to enter without tenders.
