Strike in Greece disrupts island ferries and Athens transport

Today’s strike is just the beginning.

On Tuesday, a 24-hour strike by the civil servants union and other labor groups also knocked out most forms of public transport in Athens, although the metro will operate most of the day.

Unions oppose parts of the proposed legislation that would make it difficult for them to strike, allow workers to vote remotely for industrial action without attending meetings, and allow changes to some collective labour agreements.
